So, I decided on this Vintage Vogue Pattern for a gorgeous 30's inspired evening gown. It's been in my stash for a while. It was one of those "just had to have it" purchases that I knew I'd be unlikely to actually make. (It's the wrong size for a start!) But I got it for a snip and the picture on the front is just soooo beautiful. (I'm such a sucker for pattern envelopes!) I love it. But, now it's time to pass the love on....
Vogue Vintage 2609, this is a reissue of an original 1934 design and now out of print.

Welcome to the blog world! I'm relatively new too, but it's been so nice being able to share thoughts and ideas with other people who enjoy sewing. I'd have to say my favorite thing about working with vintage patterns is the proportions. I always have to do lots of tweaking with modern patterns to get the body proportions right, and the way vintage (especially early 1950s) patterns are cut fits me really well without much reworking. It makes sizing so much easier; not to mention all of the fun little details that you can find on old patterns.
ReplyDeleteI make a lot of my own clothes, mostly from vintage patterns or re-issues. Feel free to come check some of them out at my blog.

This is one of the Vintage Vogue patterns that I don't have, and it's always been one of my favorites. I hope I win!
I just discovered your blog and am already enjoying it! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI would like to enter your giveaway and would LOVE to have a chance to win this breathtaking gown pattern. Like you - I love all things vintage and have a HUGE weakness for vintage patterns. I have found they are simpler to use than modern patterns - but maybe it's because I learned to sew with them. They are simple, easy to follow (most of the time), and elegant. :) This past summer I used two vintage early 40s patterns to create a patriotic linen summer shirtwaist - http://backcountrymaiden.blogspot.com/2010/07/wwii-living-histoy-pt-4.html#more - (pictures are towards the bottom of post).
What a fun idea and I am looking forward to reading more of your blog!

Congrats on entering 'blog world'! I love your blog and would love to enter the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage patterns because they offer the chance to make something unique, a style that is not 'in fashion' in the shops at the moment. The styles are usually well cut and the choice is endless! Sam xox

ReplyDeleteWhat a relief to know I'm not the only one to buy vintage patterns based on the envelope picture even if I know in my heart I probably wont make the garment! They are just soooo pretty to look at! I'd love to know why Vogue don't release a heap more vintage patterns?
Anyway.. loving your blog... thanks for posting on SewRetro so I could find you.

I just started following your blog and can't wait to see what else you come up with!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite thing about vintage patterns is the little details in each design. That, and I love the ladylike fit of vintage clothes. They're so much more flattering than stuff in stores now!
OMG I want this pattern. Thanks so much for posting on Sew Retro and welcome to the blog world.
ReplyDeleteI love vintage inspired clothing because they have class and style. You can be sexy without being revealing, simple but elegant. Today's fashions just don't do that for me.
You can see lots of my recreations at my blog:
