Top Draftalong # 16 - Regrouping....

So how is everyone doing? I'm about to sew up my toile/muslin. Before I post any more though, I thought this would be a good point to review where we're at. Here's a round up of the posts so far

Top Draftalong # 15 - Stay Stitching
Top Draftalong # 14 - Transferring Toile Markings
Top Draftalong # 13 - Adding Seam Allowance
Top Draftalong # 12 - Not a Happy Bunny
Top Draftalong # 11 - Making the Toile/Muslin
Top Draftalong # 10 - Handy Little Helpers
Top Draftalong # 9 - Assembling the PDF Pattern
Top Draftalong # 8 - Basic Block Patterns
Top Draftalong # 7 - Cracked it!
Top Draftalong # 6 - Bear with me!
Top Draftalong # 5 - Over to You
Top Draftalong # 4 - Body Measurements
Top Draftalong # 3 - Odds & Ends
Top Draftalong # 2 - Rough Schedule
Top Draftalong # 1 - Preliminary post

Of the few comments I've received on the draft-along posts recently, most have been that, like me, some of you feel you are falling behind. (Not that you can as such, since these post are here to use as and when you choose). When I say some of you, for all I know it could be all of you. I don't actually know how many of "you" there are. I don't actually know if anyone has a muslin cut out  or not yet.  So, if you are/have been/are intending to follow the draftalong, would you mind awfully dropping by the comments section of this post? I'd just like to know where you're at really so I know how to pitch the rest of the draftalong. Whether I'm going to fast/too slow. Whether the posts are easy to follow/clear as mud. You know the sort of thing. A kind of roll call with feedback really. Please don't be shy, I can take it ;)

  1. My dear Portia, I have no criticisms whatsoever. I think you are doing a fine job. :) I am a bit behind you, since I haven't cut out my muslin/toile yet. I have had a lot of "must-do" items taking precedence over my "want-to-do" list......I'm sure no-one here has any problem with that happening, right? ;) ....That being said, I am still following along and will continue to work on it as I can, at my own pace. I very much appreciate your instruction and have found it quite helpful, so thank you. :)

  2. I'm right behind you! Took some time yesterday to get caught up and clear the clutter blocking my sewing machine. I hope to complete the stay stitching tonight *fingers crossed*

  3. hello!
i've not even taken my measurements yet, thats how far behind i am!!!
i'm off on hols from tomorrow so i'm planning on doing measurements and muslin when i'm back although i think i'm going to use the bodice blocks i have from evening classes because its more form fitting that the one from the book.
once i'm all caught up i think the fitting/alterations&dart manipulations are going to be the posts for me as i'm fairly comfortable drafting rather than using commercial patterns anyway.
good job on all the info posted so far though :-)

  4. Hello Miss P,
I have a feeling you know I'm with you, & have actually managed to complete posts 10-15 in one sitting - making these bite sizes perfect. Speed is also perfect. In fact feeling very optimistic! Thank you for being such a caring draftalong hostess x

  5. Hi Portia dear! I am catching up . . . I assembled the PDF and starting adding the seam allowances to the muslin/toile before cutting it out. Life is busy, but I plan to cut it out and sew it up on Tuesday. (Basically posts 11 - 15).

I am so very much looking forward to this, as I had a minor meltdown recently over the fact that I really don't have any clothes. I really NEED some tops to wear to work!

  7. Hi! I'm planning to follow the draft-along!... at some point, at least. I'm a bit caught up in other things at the moment, but I don't mind following it at a later date...

  8. Hi Portia - as promised, it is Tuesday and I completed my first muslin (and uploaded some pictures to the Flicker group). Right now the fit is a little small (I think it's because my hubby printed it at work for me and the settings probably defaulted to "shrink to fit"). Well, it's a starting point at least :)

  9. Hey Portia! I used the bodice sloper I emailed you about and sewed a muslin up last week. I did neglect to stay stitch though, so I will do it again as soon as I get back from the long weekend camping that we have planned :) I think the slow pace has been nice- it means I can fit it in along with all of the other stuff I am trying to do at the same time! And of course, your posts are always very clear!

  11. Hi Portia! Oh my, I do feel guilty! I love sewalongs especially if I sew along in real time, and that was my plan on this one. However, I took a bit too much upon myself and have not been able to do more than take my measurements fo far. I also wanted to do the jean sew-along on another blog, and sew my own projects, and, and, and. So I am not sure when I will catch up with you here. I do appreciate so much what you are doing here though, so please don't get discouraged because of other peoples' schedules... :-)

  12. Katja, don't feel guilty!! That's not at all what I meant by this post. I do exactly the same as you in trying to do a zillion projects at once, lol!

    Hi Gina! Great. :)

Hey AJA, hope you have fun camping. I'm a rubbish camper! I checked out the link you sent me. I just need to get some printer paper...! Thankyou for the heads up on that it looks fab.

Yay Annabelle, shall head over to Flickr and have a look!

Hey Alessa, yep great. The posts will be here whenever anyone feels like dipping in :)

    Hey Annie Grumbles, Schools out!

Hi Winnie, yes, got your message after I'd drafted this post. Have you sorted your blog gremlins yet?!

    Yay Sabrina!

Hi Aviewintmyworld, that sounds like an excellent plan! I haven't been overly excited with the muslins in the book I have to say!

Sheri, you're so sweet, thankyou. I think alot of us can idntify with that feeling of "snatching" time here and there, lol!

  13. I have planned to join this draftalong, but unfortunately learning for an exam is more important at the moment...atleast it should ;-)
I will however reread all the posts once the exam is over which might be in a month or so.

  14. Hi Portia, sorry, I did reply to your post earlier but it's been lost in space. I've cut out my muslin (including seam allowance) and just need to sew it up. Your posts are perfectly spaced for catching up if you have to, which I probably will have to after next week as it's half term (again!) x
