Thrifty Finds # 34 - Especially for my Elderflower Fizz...

The very first thing I did on our return from the Isle of Wight was to bottle my Elderflower champagne. There was ALOT more than I thought too! 6 x 1litre bottles and 5 x 750 ml bottles to be precise. Should keep us going!

... and this set of little vintage glasses (thrifted for £2.50) will be just the thing to serve it in should we EVER have anything resembling a summer... are they cute or what?!

Did anyone else manage to get a batch of this made up?

  1. those bottles look stunning. Remember to release the pressure as they ferment. Elderflower Champagne can be very explosive!
I'm looking forward to drinking mine with some cassis.

    1. Don't you just love the colour?!
I have a "test" plastic bottle that I use to help me judge how much expansion is going on in the other bottles. I half fill a small plastic bottle with my fizz, and squeeze the remaining air out before sealing it. Then I keep an eye on that to see how hard it gets and whether the sides get pushed out by the gas inside. If it get's too hard/expanded I release some pressure from the other bottles. Not been necessary yet, but this batch is defo fizzier than the last lot I made.
      Cassis is a great idea!!

  3. Did you know that in Alsace the wine glasses have green stems ? Are these from Alsace?

  4. Oooh, no I didn't know that! I picked these up at my local charity shop (UK) but don't know anything about them. That sounds very intriguing. Can you tell me any more?

    1. Alsace produces white wines that are bottled in green glass .The glasses also have green stems , often taller than yours. Yours look very 50s to me , but I'm no specialist. Hope you enjoy some white wine in them to celebrate !
