Just a little tinkering....

I suppose I ought to mention the tinkering that has been going on and will continue to go on over the next week or so.D id you notice any changes? I've been feeling the need to freshen up the look of my blog for a while. But the stuff that I wanted to do was outside of the parameters of Blogger's template options. If I wanted to do what I wanted to do; I'd have to get down and dirty with HTML/CSS coding. Eeeep!  Actually, turns out it's not that hard at all! There are so many brilliant resources out there!  Anyhow, I haven't decided on a final design as such. I'm kinda just tinkering and playing to see whether the fit of an element works at the moment. Once I have Photoshop nailed, (playing with that too) the header and navigation tabs will get an overhaul. I've gone all black and white at the moment, but there will be a colour scheme once I decide on it.....

On a related subject, I need your advice! I've been pondering my blog name, and am having doubts about it moving forward.  Considering I will be getting married at some point and will then be a "Mrs" should I keep "Miss P" or do you all know me as Portia by now?  A couple of people IRL have commented recently that "Miss P" sounds a bit kinky. Kinda Miss Whiplash'esque! Maybe that says more about them than it does about the name, lol, but seriously....is it time for a name change? Would a name change alienate people that have been reading this blog from the outset?
I am 38....how long can I feasibly go on calling myself a "Miss" without it sounding like a euphamism for something else....?! Your input would be very gratefully received!

  1. WHAT? Kinky? Come on! I mean, you can't call yourself by your name without it sounding sexual? isn't that silly?
I think it's sweet and people know you for it! Not to say that people don't recognize you as Portia too, I don't think it alienates anyone (when I first came across this blog I didn't think "oh so she's a sewist by day and stripper by night).
I like it the way it is!

  2. Ooh, I love your About photo bubble - really nice! Portia, Miss P ... I have never, ever thought there was something kinky about your blog title. I don't mind. You call yourself whatever you want to call yourself! Interesting sidenote - when meeting Scruffy Badger IRL I kept calling her 'Scruffy'. Which to outside ears, might sound like a real insult! She knew what I meant...

  3. NB Laughing out loud at Kessem's comment: Sewist By Day, Stripper By Night... That HAS to be someone's byline...

  5. I like miss P, it sounds young and lovely and that's what crafting should be thought to be :-)

  6. I never thought there was anything kinky about Miss P --sounded rather innocent and fun to me, actually! Honestly, as long as the RSS feed still works for it to get to my Google Reader, I wouldn't be alienated by a name change. I've seen blogs change names on there before and it doesn't change who you are as a person or writer!

  7. I'm rolling with laughter at the thought of kinky sewing...not entirely sure how that would work! I'm more impressed that you've conquered the coding stuff. I've not the foggiest idea where to start. Could you share some resources? Is that shockingly cheeky of me?

    1. I know! I think Kessem's really started something with her comment,lol!
On the subject of sharing resources, absolutely! I'm all about spreading the knowledge, and plan on doing a few "Blog Customisation" posts. (So keep an eye out for those, coming soon!) If I can do this html malarkey, anyone can!

    2. I have a friend who's brother sews latex outfits for specialist shops in Soho...so this is all the more hilarious to me!
Thank you for sharing...I'm very much looking forward to the Customisation posts. It's all a mystery to me.

  8. Kinky P, Miss P, Portia...whatever you decide to go with, your loyal followers won't mind a bit and the new ones will be none the wiser ;o) We love you for who you are and your excellent blog content, not your name - so I say go with whatever name makes you happy!

  9. You could be Ms. P.

I have you in my feed also so I don't think a name change would hurt your readership. Your url shows up as Portia Lawrie, which could also change if you decided to take your partners name.

I think a kinky sewing blog could be very interesting...

  10. Stick with Miss P. In the South (US, that is) women are called Miss (Firstname) all their lives. I don't think it's in least bit kinky.

  11. Off topic...love the photo on the blog your hair color and cut are superb! Now...I don't see anything wrong with Miss P. and I also think of you as Portia

  12. I totally feel you on the "miss" thing. After we were married my mother in law has insisted on continuing to call me Miss Kimberly even though I am (finally!) a Mrs and proud of it. While you can't help what other people call you, what you call yourself (and by extension, your blog) is important that it sounds like you to *you.* Whatever you choose, I'm sure those who follow you here will simply adjust to. :)

  13. I agree with everyone above. It doesn't sound the least bit kinky! I say call your blog whatever you like! It wouldn't bother me at all and I presume you'd keep the same web address anyway. Miss P, or something new, I'll still stalk... Er, follow you, regardless!
